Renishaw offers a comprehensive range of advanced encoders used by OEMs around the world for exact positioning, highest reliability, and superior performance-to-cost value. A variety of different encoder technologies provide machine designers with proven solutions to difficult applications. All are engineered to deliver non-contact, friction-free operation, exceptional ease of installation, space savings, and application flexibility.

Optical encoders

Our robust and high-performance linear and rotary position encoders measure using a finely graduated scale and compact optoelectronic read head that converts motion relative to the scale into position date.

Renishaw optical linear and rotary encoders bring high precision, speed and reliability to thousands of tough industrial applications. Robust metal scales avoid the fragility of glass scale encoders, while unique non-contact read heads eliminate the bulk hysteresis and wear with traditional encoders.

The QUANTiC™ encoder series integrates Renishaw’s filtering optics design and interpolation technology to create a high performance, super-compact, digital all-in-one incremental optical encoder. QUANTiC encoders are easy to install with exceptionally wide installation and running tolerance, along with built-in installation and calibration functions.

The FORTiS-S FS encoder series is a next generation linear enclosed absolute encoder for use in harsh environments, such as machine tools. The position measurement over the encoder’s long life is ensured by a range of innovative design features: industry-proven position measurement, superior sealing, easy and quick installation, non-contact, class leading vibration resistance, and functional safety.

Linear encoders

Use flexible, self-adhesive, cut-to-length metal scales, a Renishaw innovation white patented optics filter out effects from scratches, dust, or dirt. Rotary encoders feature a steel ring with engraved scale that direct mounts on shafts, eliminating coupling losses, oscillation, and hysteresis eras A broad range of optical encoders lets designers tailor accuracy and sub divisional errors. A broad range of optical encoders lets designers tailor accuracy and sub-divisional error (SDOE) to application needs. Based on Renishaw’s industry-proven absolute technology, the EVOLUTE™ encoder series is a true-absolute non‑contact linear optical encoder with a 50 μm scale period, bringing superb installation tolerances and greater dirt immunity for applications that demand not only the highest operational integrity, but where fast installation is critical.

Magnetic encoders

RLS rotary and linear magnetic encoders— produced in Slovenia by RLS d.o.o., a Renishaw affiliate — are ideal for dirty, wet and extreme temperature environments. IP68 is a “norm” for this range of encoders. Low cost, compact size and design simplicity have won use in a wide range of industries. Non-contact solid-state design— essentially a chip and magnet —eliminates seals, bearings and moving parts for lifetime reliability.

Rotary encoders beat glass disk encoders in affordability, reliability, thermal range, shock and vibration resistance, dirt immunity, compactness, and speed. They provide class-leading performance, industry’s first 13-bit capacity. Available in component, modular and packaged shaft-style models, rotary encoders offer up to 8,192-count resolution, accuracy to 0.4°, speeds over 50,000 rpm, and extreme thermal range from -40°C to 125°C. LM10 linear magnetic encoders continue Renishaw cut-and-stick application simplicity with a self –adhesive, magnetic metal scale. The encoders offer “down to” 1 µm resolution at 8 m/sec. travel, -20°C to 85°C operation, and 100-meter range.

Miniature encoder

The ATOMTM DX encoder series is Renishaw’s smallest incremental optical encoder with digital output direct from the read head, providing positional feedback, onboard interpolation, and filtering optics all in a miniature package.

ATOM DX builds on the market proven optical system of the ATOMTM encoder platform and integrates Renishaw’s high-performance interpolation technology, reducing system size and removing the need for additional adaptors and interfaces. ATOM DX is suitable for the most space constrained applications where performance cannot be compromised.

Renishaw is a global, high precision metrology and healthcare technology group. We design, develop and deliver solutions and systems that provide unparalleled precision, control and reliability.

Our metrology products help manufacturers to maximize production output, to significantly reduce the time taken to produce and inspect components, and to keep their machines running reliably. In the fields of industrial automation and motion systems, our position measurement and calibration systems allow builders to manufacture highly accurate and reliable products.

We are also a world leader in the field of additive manufacturing (also referred to as metal 3D printing), where we design and produce industrial machines which ‘print’ parts from metal powder. From transport to agriculture, electronics to healthcare, our breakthrough technology transforms product performance.
